Press Release
Private Sector Commission Wales Job Fair
The Private Sector Commission today in collaboration with private and public corporations launched a Job Fair at Patentia on the West Bank of Demerara. The objective was to link potential employers and employees, primarily from the closed Wales Estate, with each other. The fair was a tremendous success as more than 20 companies present indicated that there was a wealth of untapped resources available to them for the 800 available positions.
While the PSC seeks to find employment for the unemployed, we would like to reiterate that we advocated for the estates to remain operational, while being transferred to private hands, as we never supported closure. It is our desire to continue working with the Special Purpose Unit to facilitate the privatization and ensuring rehiring of staff. Given the closure, we are now advocating for a speedy privatization so that the unemployed can be absorbed quickly.
The Private Sector Commission pledges to continue working hard to bring some semblance of economic viability to the affected areas across Guyana. The PSC is also calling on Government to work with the Private Sector to boost investors’ confidence and expand investments.
We will endeavor to take our Job Fairs to other affected areas in the future.
The PSC would like to thank the Region 3 Chamber of Commerce for their assistance, the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry and all companies that participated in the Job Fair.
