Redundant Laws

In early 2010 the National Competitiveness Strategy Unit conducted a review of a number of old laws affecting business, to establish whether there was a need to amend or re-write such legislation. These include the Bill of Sales Act, the Roman-Dutch Mortgage, the Pledge of Goods Act, the Sales of Goods Act, the Bills of Exchange Act and the Lands and Tenancy Act amongst others. The consultancy was carried out by a lawyer. The recommendations were presented to the Government and it is expected that a consultation with stakeholders will be held on the recommendations – which consist of a number of amendments required to reflect today’s business requirements.
